Hi, my name is Emily and I like to write stuff.

Welcome! My name is Emily, and you seem to have stumbled upon my website. I’m seventeen years old, and I'm a typical student: stressing about school and failing at deciding on a suitable career. Aside from myself, my house is occupied by my parents, my seven cats, a whole lot of fish, and my fifteen-but-still-five-at-heart sister, Fuzz.

I’ve been on the internet for about three years now- our family first got internet access and a decent computer halfway through my freshman year of high school (even though I'd been begging for access to the internet for the previous decade or so). My first experience with HTML was with Neopets (how cheesy), and my pursuit of coding-related knowledge has only persisted (though with varying degrees of interest) since. I daresay I’ve improved a bit too! (If in doubt of this statement, here's my very first layout in the history of forever.) My father would tell you I spend too much time online, but I’d tell you it’s worth it in my eyes- I enjoy it. It's not like I'm wasting too much of my life on here, anyway.

I’ve got a lot of different interests- I don’t just sit around on my laptop all day making websites, believe it or not. I love reading both on and off the internet; searching the web for interesting articles is one of my favorite things to do on the internet (when I’m not blog hopping, of course.) I've been playing the violin for eight years of my life- I'm in a few different orchestras, and have been taking private lessons for four years.

As I play the violin, music takes up a sizeable chunk of my life- and not just classical (and baroque and romantic and...), either. I (like pretty much every other high school student I’ve ever talked to) love listening to music in my spare time. In fact, after I began working the summer after my freshman year of high school, the first thing I bought was an iPod (the same iPod that I have today). My favorite bands include the likes of U2, the GooGoo Dolls, Keane (an amazing band, but it seems like no one’s heard of them!), Coldplay and the Fray. I also listen to classical (and baroque and romantic and...) music (because I’m a violin nerd) and will tolerate most other music, but two genres I really don’t enjoy are country and rap.

As far as athletic activities go, well, I’d really rather not. I’ve been riding horses for nine years, true, but that’s about as far as my athleticism goes. My hand-eye coordination in particular is awful, and I’m horrible at most (read: all) team sports. It doesn’t really bother me so much… sports sort of bore me; I can’t even watch most sports on TV.

In real life, I’m usually a pretty quiet, relaxed person, and am not really the type to initiate conversation or heated debate with strangers. However, when I’m around my family and close friends, I open up- I love having thoughtful discussions and heated debate alike. I have set “comfort zones” in that way- I’m pretty shy when I’m not around people I’m close to. The internet, however, is another story- I’m almost as open on the internet as I am with family and friends, and I definitely love debating and arguing about current issues. I suppose that’s part of why I like having a personal website so much.

I’m supposed to be a smart person- or at least that’s what they tell me. I’ve taken my fair share of AP classes in my time, including AP World History, AP U.S. History, AP Biology and AP Calculus 1 and 2. This year, I rook AP European History, which was really pretty exciting- this is the first year my school has offered it, and the teacher was one of my horseback riding instructors, whom I’ve known since the age of seven. I also took both AP English classes (Literature and Composition) in a combined yearlong course that was new this year. (Sometimes I feel sort of like a lab rat.) I’m one of those freaks who actually likes school most of the time; that is, until I have to wake up at 5:30 AM every morning and have 3 hours of homework a night. (Hopefully when I'm in college I will no longer be expected to get up at 5:30 AM on a regular basis.)

Basically, I’m a nerd. A violin-playing, website-coding, horseback riding nerd. And that’s all you need to know.
