The humble blog of Emily, clueless college freshman with a hopeless addiction to books
I’m Emily, and Ispirata.net is my website- my place to rant, write, share my ridiculous opinions, and just generally pretend that I’m right about everything. It’s also my web design portfolio (of a sort) and a place to show off my creative side via the graphic arts.
Ispirata.net is my third website. My very first experience in the world of HTML came from Neopets- I created a roleplaying guild for the Warriors book series, and made my very own custom guild layout. From there, I moved on to make my very first website, ThunderClan: The Second Generation- a fansite for the Warriors series (hosted off of Freewebs- I actually never went through the Piczo phase). While I still had TCG2, I began to play around with the idea of a personal blog, and RainysWorld, my second website, was born. (You see, Rainy was the alias I used back in the day when I was terrified of anyone knowing my real name.) TCG2, however, remained my priority website for a while afterward.
When I lost interest in my Warriors fansite (as was bound to happen; I was 15 and the series was directed at 11-year-olds), I decided to make RainysWorld my main website. I blogged for a bit, made some pretty graphics and wrote some articles, and was contented with my small website and the small community that I was a part of.
Until recently. I decided that I was sick of being known as Rainy, and that I was sick of being confined to the little world I’d set up for myself from day one of owning TCG2. I had to get away from RainysWorld, so I began the hunt for a new home. What I found and have created is what you see before you: Ispirata.net. I plan for Ispirata to build on what I wanted RainysWorld to become: a personal website that represents me through my writing and design, and hopefully one that I can live with for a while. I outgrew RainysWorld and TCG2, but I hope I won’t outgrow Ispirata anytime soon.
When I was searching for a domain name, I had a lot of trouble coming up with something that seemed to fit. I’d dropped RainysWorld because it was overly-personal, reflecting a name and identity that I no longer wanted; I knew that this time around I wanted things to be different. I wanted a name that expressed my website without overdoing it. Eventually, I came to the idea of coming up with various words I’d want associated with my website, and of my list, inspired was one of my favorites. After running a few availability checks, I found a translation that suited my desires rather nicely: ispirata, the Italian translation. And here it is!
The short version: ispirata is “inspired” in Italian.
