Sixteen Pounds of Pure Holiday Bliss

So it’s a new year. I don’t normally make a big deal out of the year change (Hey, face it, it’s not like much happened between 11:59 on December 31st and 12:01 January 1st), but this time it’s a little different. 2010 is going to be big. I’m graduating- I’m turning 18! I’ll be an adult, I’ll be able to vote, I’ll go to college. This time next year, life is probably going to be very different from what it is now.
I’m not making resolutions, though. Que sera, sera. And I’m bad at sticking to goals anyway. I think I might have been, say, ten when I last made a New Years Resolution? That was because our teachers forced us to. Besides, I’m generally happy with myself- I don’t think I need to set goals to stay that way.
So on New Year’s Eve, instead of going to a party (like everyone on Facebook either seemed to, or was complaining about not being able to), my sister and I built a massive blanket fort in her bedroom. Which was pretty awesome, if I do say so myself. It was tall enough that I could stand up all the way in the main part (I’m not THAT short, either), and we even draped the whole thing with a big strand of white Christmas lights. And I maintain- and probably will maintain for quite some time- that Fuzz-Fuzz and I had a lot more fun than some of those people who drank themselves stupid last night. We even had the advantage of remembering our fort this morning. I’ll upload pictures of our fort for the blog when I can get my hands on my sister’s camera.
Oh yeah, and other holidays have happened too. I love Christmas vacation- it’s kind of one of the best things about winter (that, and snow days. Gotta love random days off, especially if you’re a senior (like me!!!) and don’t have to make them up at the end of the year.) We had a whole two weeks off, because of the enormous snowstorm that blew through the East Coast and dumped two feet of snow on us (Who else caught Snowstorm ‘09? Anyone?). I also finished my college applications and am 95.8% more relaxed now.
Christmas itself was good- I received (and bought for myself, thank you Borders gift cards!) lots of new books (I’ve recently developed a SLIGHT obsession with pretty and old books- my room is slowly turning into a small library), got a few new scarves, and what has become my favorite pair of shoes- my ZEBRA PRINT flats! And I always love spending time with my family. (Actually, my extended family on my dad’s side is kind of largish- I have 18 cousins, and quite a few around my age. And we all get along and stuff. Which is good.) Now, I’m headed back to my grandparents for New Year’s dinner, which as usual consists of sour beef and potato dumplings with red cabbage (In addition to being large, my family is very German.)
I was originally going to make this semi-thoughtful, but being thoughtful isn’t as much fun as being spontaneous and excited. Your normally-scheduled, well-thought-out programming will resume… next week. Toodles.

I hope you had an awesome new years!:P
I just watched some fireworks and blew those party whistles! My dogs were scared of the noise. Anyways, 2010!

Gaming systems are *amazing*. My dad has a Nintendo 64 or something, but since he can never find all the parts at once, I don’t consider that one that we have. I also have a PS2 though. I love PlayStation, and the PS3 is like, my love right now. The Wii is pretty cool (I’ve played it a few times at friend’s and at Best Buy) but I was really torn between PS3 and Xbox 360—of course, that had nothing to do with the fact that those are the two systems that Batman: Arkham Asylum worked with, of course not. ¬¬ /reallylongramble.
Crab is really good. I think that and lobster taste pretty close, but I have never had the two around the same time so I could be terribly wrong. I just know I love lobster and crab legs. Yum. I do recommend giving lobster a try though.
Yeah, this and the previous one are really similar. The main picture used on this one is the picture I used on the other one, and the other was also grayscale and a gray-ish blue. And thank you. Cx

I’m so glad your back to blogging. (: I was really missing your blogs—I enjoy reading them.
That is so awesome how your going to be a legal adult. I still have a long way to go… ^^ I’m glad you had a fun New Years—pillow forts are always a good time. Even when your older. (:

Hi again, Emily! *claps* Congrats on beginning to blog again.
I read this yesterday, and I’m too lazy to reread it, even though I forgot what it was about except for the part on the New Year. xD
I don’t usually make a big deal out of the new year either, but I also think this is going to be a big change for me. In August I’ll be a freshman in high school (!!!), and, well, I’m not sure, but I’m getting the vibe that this year will be pretty awesome for me
And it’s the start of a new decade; I’m going to be 23 in ten years. So I’ll spend half of this decade as a kid and half as an adult. That’s kind of freaky to think about o.o
Anyway, congratulations!!! You’re going to be an official adult soon!

Dude, it’s cool that you’re becoming an adult. My sister did a few months ago- she says it’s awesome! But beware, for your parents may throw you out of the house when they can 8D
I wouldn’t worry though. Anyway, happy new year.

Hey! I love your site! Especially the color scheme! Green and grey, nice! ^_^
Sometimes I think it’s too much music!
I just noticed that you play the violin! I do too! >.< It's been a while since I've come across another violinist here. lol. Seen a few pianists!!!
I find my self in the same situation. Lots of music! It’s been getting bigger each year. I’m in two orchestras and a string quartet.
Plus school… AP US History, Advanced Spanish, all my freaking hard courses. (Damn me and my academic pride. XP)
Anyway, sorry, rant. lol.
Oh, Do you wish to be affiliates? Again, I love the site!

Oh my StarClan, this layout is beautiful, Emily!!! I love the simplicity and the pastel shades ^.^ You’ve done a gorgeous job.
By the way, you may notice I’m changing my name back to Lighty instead of Kat. I decided to officially bring KitClan back up, and I wanted to let you know in case you were wondering if you should delete the KitClan link under your Friends column. So yes, KitClan is still alive and will be operating again shortly!
-Love, Lighty

Hi, Emily! I’m glad to see you blogging again. (:
A happy early birthday for you! Congrats on being an official adult, and all that jazz that comes with it.
I don’t really fret over the New Year either, but it kind of took me by surprise at the thought of a new decade. Oooh, pillow forts! They’re so much fun, no matter what age. I wish I could get my sister to build a pillow fort with me. x3 Anyway, glad you had a good New Year’s and Christmas!
By the way, I love the new layout; it’s the best example of this type of color scheme I’ve seen. That’s my favorite shade of blue.

I’m glad you had a lovely Christmas! I also really like the new layout. (:
In the past I used to make a bunch of (pointless) New Years resolutions, but I was lucky if I actually fulfilled one of them, so now I’m in the same boat as you and just don’t make them anymore.
I love blanket and pillow forts!! I haven’t made one of them in forever! Next time I’m having friends over, we’re so doing that! You inspire me, haha.
